Bringing Irish Heritage to Your Plate

Welcome to IvyHome Farm, an Australian family-owned and operated farm dedicated to preserving and promoting the extraordinary Irish Moiled cattle breed – First time in Australia. Founded by Denis and Theresa Roberts, IvyHome Farm is deeply committed to upholding the heritage of this remarkable breed and delivering top-quality genetics to customers who truly appreciate its unique qualities.

The Irish Moiled cow is a true gem among cattle breeds, boasting a unique dual-purpose nature, that efficiently converts low-grade food and grass into high milk and meat production. The Irish Moiled's adaptability and docile temperament make it a valuable asset for farmers and an excellent choice for breeders alike. We strongly believe that this breed has untapped potential in the market, and we are resolute in bridging that gap, establishing the Irish Moiled cow as a staple in households and restaurants alike.

Beyond their outstanding qualities, the Irish Moiled cattle hold a special place in our hearts due to our personal connection to Ireland. Derry Duff stud is in honor of Theresa’s grandfathers home, which resides in Derry Duff which has been passed down for over 15 generations.

We have exciting plans to import embryos, significantly reducing the time required to have full-blooded Irish Moiled cattle ready for the market, allowing more people to experience the wonders of this exceptional breed. Additionally, our farm will run a "Grade up" program, focusing on artificial insemination of Droughtmasters to develop a commercially viable variant that thrives in the Queensland conditions. This initiative aligns perfectly with our vision of expanding the reach and impact of the Irish Moiled breed in Australia.

With every step we take, IvyHome Farm continues to champion the Irish Moiled heritage while striving to offer our customers the very best. We invite you to join us on this incredible journey of preservation, excellence, and delightful flavors.

About the Breed

  • The Characteristics of Irish Moiled Cattle

The Irish Moiled is a distinctive breed that stands out with its polled head, red coat, and white markings. The breed is known for its versatility in coat color, ranging from mostly white with red accents to all red, and a face that can be roan or speckled. The breed's name, Moile or Maol, stems from Gaelic and refers to the distinctive dome on its head. The breed is medium-sized, with mature cows weighing up to 650kg, and is known for its docile and manageable nature. They are also efficient in their land and feed usage compared to other cattle breeds.

  • The Benefits of Irish Moiled Cows

Irish Moiled cows are reliable producers of calves each year, and can be bred naturally or through artificial insemination. They are hardy and can consume large amounts of lower quality forage, making them ideal for extensive or conservation grazing. They have a thick winter coat and can thrive in most terrains, and female calves are often kept in the herd or in high demand among other Irish Moiled breeders.

  • The Advantages of Irish Moiled Bulls

Irish Moiled bulls are known for their gentle and manageable temperament, making them suitable for use in small herds. They are hardy and alert from an early age, and are commonly used as maternal sires in suckler herds to produce easy-to-manage, milky, and well-marked heifer replacements.
